HDDVD on the way out?

BBC NEWS | Technology | Blu-ray supporters scent victory

Well, it's a sad day but it is starting to look like Sony's Blu-ray may beat HDDVD in the current format war.

I have supported HDDVD since the start of this format war and I'm sad to see Sony paying off the film studios in order to gain support.

Why should you care?
This war is making things more expensive for all of us. Sony has recently given a large amount of cash to WB in order to make the switch to Blu-Ray. Where does that money come from? The Blu-ray sales. To be fair, the HDDVD camp also did this a few years ago.

The end result is high cost of next generation of DVD's.

HDDVD is the cheaper technology. Blu-ray has some advantages, but these do not justify the extra costs.

The Big Studios are always looking for ways to screw the consumer. Look at the DRM (Digital Rights Management) that only hurt the honest consumer and didn't even slow down the hackers. Big Studios look out for their bottom line without concern for us, the people that spend our hard earned money.

What can you do?
The easiest thing to do is just forget this round of media format and wait until the next best thing comes out. HDDVD and Blu-ray will be gone soon, replaced by one format that gives the consumer what we want. A Movie!

As soon as these people get their act together and start listening to the consumer we will all be better off.
